Tulsa Summer

From the Tulsa Zoo to the Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa is stuffed with popular summer attractions for people of all ages to enjoy. Luckily for those who don't like crowds, though, there are just as many lesser-known landmarks, galleries, and museums within city limits.

Our real estate agents love visiting these hidden gem attractions during their off hours, and they say that doing so helped them get to know the city better. If you'd like to do the same, here are a few of the underrated local points of interest that they recommend.

  • The Outsiders House Museum - 731 N St Louis Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74106
The Outsiders is one of the most beloved movies of the 1980s, and parts of it were filmed right here in Tulsa. The Outsiders House Museum is located inside the structure that served as the Curtis household in the movie, carefully restored to look just like it did back then.

Entering from the home's iconic porch, you'll explore the interior sets, examine real photos and memorabilia from the movie, and learn interesting facts about the production. The museum is open from 11 AM to 4 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with tickets available at the on-site gift shop anytime during operating hours.

  • The Center of the Universe - 20 E Archer Street, Tulsa, OK 74103
No, The Center of the Universe is probably not the actual center of the universe. Instead, it gets its name from its strange and unexplained nature. This unassuming concrete circle ringed by bricks has a secret: stand in the middle of it and make a sound, and you'll hear that sound echo back much louder. The noise will also sound oddly distorted to anyone outside the circle. It's a neat acoustic anomaly that hasn't been replicated anywhere else, and it's definitely worth experiencing at least once.

  • Tulsa History Tour with Underground Tunnels - 100 E 2nd Street S, Tulsa, OK 74103
Did you know that many of Tulsa's biggest buildings are connected by underground tunnels? The Tulsa History Tour with Underground Tunnels takes you through this network of secret passages to iconic structures like the Kennedy Building, the Philtower Building, the Mid-Continent Tower, and more.

You'll get a closer look at each of these buildings and learn more about their history and cultural significance within the city. Each tour is led by an experienced guide, lasts around an hour and a half, and costs $40 per person. Tours may be canceled if fewer than 10 people sign up, so purchase your tickets early to let the organizers know you're interested.

  • The Church Studio - 304 S Trenton Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74120
The Church Studio is an old church building that was converted into a recording studio by multi-genre musician Leon Russell in 1972. It's known for its role in cultivating the "Tulsa Sound," a unique genre that combines elements of rock, blues, country, and swamp pop.

It's now the home of Shelter Records and has hosted famous musicians from around the country, including Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, and Stevie Wonder. You can tour the building from 10 AM to 3 PM every day, except Sundays, or enjoy an intimate concert in the venue's performance hall. Tour tickets cost $15 per person, while concert ticket prices vary depending on the featured headliner.
